First Dental Visit

At your appointment, one of our doctors at Sutton Place Dental Spa will spend unrushed time with you, examining your mouth and teeth, as well as talking to you about your wishes, needs, and concerns. Exploration and planning are important for long-term success. Your doctor will look at the big picture, how all your teeth play a role in the overall look and feel of your smile. You'll tell the doctor what you want in a smile, whether you have a big event coming up, such as a wedding. You'll look at the before-and-after album to find a case that matches your situation, and establish a treatment plan with your doctor that fits your needs and desires.

Schick panoramic digitalPanoramic digital

During your first visit, you may receive a full-mouth x-ray, for accurate diagnosis and effective therapy. With this procedure, we can clarify the cause of missing teeth, investigate syndromes and systemic diseases, investigate periodontal problems, take a look at your sinuses, investigate any temporomandibular joint complaints, and check for any signs of other dental disease.

Digital x-rays

OrthoposWe use only digital x-rays at Sutton Place Dental Spa. With digital radiography, we take x-rays of your teeth with markedly less radiation to you than with a regular dental x-ray machine. Then we can store your x-rays on our computers and access them faster than ever before. Additionally, your images can be sent electronically to insurance companies, dramatically decreasing processing time and resulting in faster payment.

Intraoral CameraIntraoral Camera

We use the easiest, smallest, and most advanced intraoral camera that is about the size of an electric toothbrush. With this Schick intraoral camera, we can magnify your mouth and show you on a screen exactly what we see in your mouth. This allows you to see for yourself the crack, the stain, the gap, the receding gum line.

Diagnodent

One of the most important things we do for our patients is to identify and fill cavities. Since even Diagnodentthe smallest spot of decay can threaten the integrity of the entire tooth, finding and filling cavities is the key to preventing further problems of all kinds. Cavities often hide along fissure lines, or inside biting or occlusal surfaces.

Porcelain Veneers

Many times, the demands of cosmetic changes in the mouth are too great for simple bonding. This is when porcelain laminate veneers may be used. Porcelain veneers (sometimes referred to as laminates) can change an entire smile. Porcelain laminate veneers are quick, painless, and dramatic. They can change shape, color, size, and arrangement of teeth or any combination of these factors. They can be used as an alternative for orthodontic treatment. The best part about porcelain laminate veneers is that they can be placed in two visits. The technique consists of first shaving a thin layer of outer tooth structure (about the thickness of an eggshell). An impression is then taken of the prepared teeth and is sent to a dental laboratory. In the lab, a ceramist will make very thin porcelain facings consisting of all the changes in shape, size, color and teeth arrangement that are needed to have a great looking smile. At the second visit, the laminates are bonded onto the prepared teeth with a white light gun. The bonding material acts as an adhesive for the laminates. Porcelain laminates are the most popular technique used for dramatic smile makeovers.

Porcelain Laminates

Porcelain Jackets

Porcelain JacketsWhen there is not enough tooth structure left, or the chewing demands in the mouth are too great for laminates, a stronger, more extensive restoration is needed. Here we need porcelain jacket crowns. Porcelain jackets are pure porcelain crowns placed on a fully prepared tooth. They are the most life-like of all full crown type restorations. The technique initially consists of preparing the teeth. Next, an impression is taken and then sent to the dental lab where the porcelain jacket is fabricated. Finally, they are placed in the patient's mouth and permanently cemented onto the teeth.

Lumineers

LumineersIf nature didn't give you a perfect smile, you can get the look you've always wanted with Lumineers. What makes a natural-looking smile more possible than ever before is the innovative technology behind porcelain. Lumineers can be made as thin as contact lens and are translucent enough to look like your real teeth. Lumineers are thin porcelain shields that are bonded to the front of your teeth to create dramatic changes in your smile.

Lumineers can make everyone's smile more beautiful without removing painful tooth structure.

Use Lumineers for:

  • Tooth discoloration
  • Noticable gaps
  • Permanent stains
  • Broken or misshapen teeth
  • Lumineers can even bond to existing crowns and bridgework without having to replace them.

Lumineers

There is no pain involved in applying Lumineers. There is no need for drilling, shots or pain because there is no removal of sensitive tooth structure. It is safe for even the most sensitive patients.

A beautiful smile can increase your confidence and self-esteem, giving you an edge in your everyday activities by improving your professional and personal image.

Bonding

When teeth are chipped or slightly decayed, bonded composite resins may be the material of choice. Bonding is applied to a tooBondingth via a light gun. First, the tooth structure is cleaned and etched. Then a clear adhesive is applied to the area needing bonding. Once applied, a tooth colored bonding material is placed on the tooth. It is permanently hardened and fused to the tooth with a hand held white light gun. This process is called photo curing. Bonding makes a great tooth colored filling for small cavities and broken or chipped surfaces. It can also be used to close spaces between teeth. Additionally, it is used to cover the entire outside surface of a tooth to change its color and shape. For the latter two applications, bonding has its limits. It may not be strong enough, aesthetic enough, or durable enough for certain individual situations. When these problems occur, the next choice would be porcelain laminate veneers.

Invisible Braces

Straighten your teeth without traditional metal mouth braces with Invisalign ®

InvisalignHere is how it works: Your cosmetic dentist at Sutton Place Dental Spa will take an impression of your existing teeth. The model made from the impression will be analyzed with 3-D computer imaging technology. The computer will figure out how to straighten your teeth and over what time. A series of clear plastic aligners will be made for you to wear. You'll visit your dentist at regular intervals to check your progress. Congratulations! When you're finished wearing each clear aligner in the series, your treatment will be complete and you will have straighter teeth and the beautiful smile you deserve.

You will wear each aligner for 2 weeks. They are virtually invisible and unnoticeable. You change each aligner at 2 week intervals until treatment is complete. (usually 6-14 months) This is truly 21st century dentistry it's best! Call us today for a free consultation to see how easy it really is to have straight teeth.

Whether your smile needs minor improvements or more extensive adjustments, Invisalign can certainly help. It's successful in treating overly crowded or widely spaced teeth. It can also relieve more complex issues, including overbites, underbites and even crossbites. In fact, your dentist can use Invisalign clear aligners in all or part of just about any treatment plan

InvisalignBecause Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to position and straighten teeth, you can keep your active lifestyle during treatment. Unlike braces, Invisalign aligners have no metal bands or wires to irritate your mouth. So go ahead and be as active as you like. Since Invisalign is removable, just take the clear aligners out for special events or if you're going to indulge in a sticky, gooey snack.

An average Invisalign course of treatment takes about a year. You'll see your dentist every 6 to 8 weeks for adjustments and to check progress. At regular intervals, you'll receive a new set of custom-molded clear aligners to continue the straightening process. The total number of clear aligners is specific to you, determined by your doctor for your course of treatment.

Implants

Implants can replace ill-fitting dentures or missing teeth and they feel and look like your natural teeth. The benefits of dental implants are numerous; improved appearance, the ability to eat your favorite foods, the ability to maintain healthy adjacent teeth and your experience of renewed confidence. We can help you find the best solution to meet your individual dental needs.

We coordinate surgical and restorative implant dentistry in one location. Most dental practices work with specialists in different locations to provide their patients with implant dentistry.  The surgeon places the dental implant. The restorative dentist takes an impression of the implant and places the restoration (crown or bridge).
At Sutton Place Dental Spa, all of the members of the Implant Team are under one roof.  As a result, we can provide a different level of care that others cannot.  Some implant treatment requires close coordination of care with members of the team present.  Immediate restorations require the surgeon to place the implant and the restorative dentist to place the crown the same day. In our practice, our patients can have all this done without leaving the dental chair.

Full-Mouth Reconstruction

This is where we make new smiles really happen. Our experience and expertise in esthetic and restorative dental care is difficult to surpass in New York, New York. We can redesign your smile to make you look up to ten years younger and whiten your teeth so they are up to ten shades lighter. Of course, we aren't just about making your smile beautiful. We're also about making it healthy, sound, and with a strong bite so that you can enjoy life.

After we understand your needs and goals, we consider the shape of your face, color of your eyes, shape and contour of lips. We evaluate factors like the symmetry of your eyes and nose to the other dimensions. Once you have your new smile, your confidence soars.

Porcelain Fused to Metal Crowns

When biting pressure is too great for porcelain jackets or gaps from missing teeth must be filled in, metal alloy must be placed under the porcelain for strength. This is the porcelain fused to metal crown technique. More tooth structure is removed to accommodate both metal and porcelain. Once an impression is taken, a metal coping is made on the prepared tooth. This is then covered with porcelain. Porcelain fused to metal crowns do not have the translucency of pure porcelain crowns. Therefore, aesthetics may be slightly compromised in some situations. However, a talented ceramist with experience in custom staining can usually overcome these limitations, thereby creating life like restorations. When teeth are loose due to periodontal bone loss, this technique is used. Here the crowns are splinted together by joining the metal substructure of the crowns so they are tied together like a small fence in the mouth.

Porcelain fused to gold inlays

When individual back teeth are broken down but some good healthy tooth structure remains, porcelain fused to gold inlays are used. These are the strongest and longest lasting of all the aesthetic back teeth restorations. Once the tooth is properly prepared, the technique is similar to the porcelain fused to metal crown technique. The benefit of this restoration is the advantage of gold underneath which supports the tooth during heavy biting loads, thereby protecting the tooth and the nerve within.
